Just because Santa’s midsection shakes like a bowl full of jelly doesn’t mean you want yours to! However, it can be difficult to not have a sagging waist after the holiday parties during this festive, and oh-so-filling time of year.
One nice thing about many of these holiday parties is that they are potluck. This is your chance to turn the tide in your favor. Bring something you know you will like, but something that is lighter. This ensures you can have a satisfying snack you won’t feel guilty about. That way, when someone brings some outrageous dessert dripping in heart attacks you’ll still have something skinnier to munch on.
Along with Santa Elves, we’ve looked through the Internet to find you three easy and lighter appetizers you can bring with you to a potluck party. And, most likely, there will be other people grateful you brought something they can feel good about eating too. Basically you’ll be saving you and your friends’ skinny jeans’ top buttons.
- Smokey Chipotle Salsa by Onelovelylife. (Gluten free, vegan) Three words: fire roasted tomatoes. Plus, it’s nice to have something salty instead of sweet by adding your favorite chips. Now the question becomes classic triangle or scoops chips? Tough decisions.
- Beet and Chickpea Hummus by Perry’s Plate. (Gluten free, vegan) Plain hummus was so yesterday. This deep purple, chic looking hummus will be gorgeous with any holiday background. A tasty pool your veggies will want to swim in, this protein packed powerhouse will help you actually not hate the veggie tray.
- Peanut Butter Fruit Dip by Cooking Classy. (Gluten free) Three ingredients is all it takes to make this scrumdiddlyumptious dip. Not to mention, it’s stuff you probably already have in your pantry and fridge. Add in a full tray of fresh fruit like apples, bananas and raspberries and you have your fruit and protein for the evening.
And, one last tip of advice. It also helps to not go to these shindigs starving. However, most parties are in the early evening—usually after a busy day. One thing we love to do is mix up a couple scoops of protein powder in our shaker cup. We can sip it on the drive over, put on that last touch of lipstick and we’re set to go! #Winning.
Happy and healthy snacking to all, and to all many great nights.
