We’re all looking forward to warmer, sunny days. After a long, cold winter it’s time to break out the tank tops, shorts, bikinis, and flip flops. But are you ready for summer fashions? Afternoons at the pool or beach vacations suddenly take on new meaning if you’re feeling a little insecure about your abs or legs. No need to fear, we’ve got four fitness tips that will have you ready to bare those arms and legs all summer long.
- Banish the Belly Bloat. If you have a little extra belly fat you want to get rid of, try drinking lemon water to beat the bloat. Lemon is a naturally flavored diuretic that is known for its detoxifying and disinfectant properties. Lemon may also help you reduce hunger cravings. According to Dr. Tom Potisk, lemon juice “works as a mild cleanser/detox for the digestive track.”
- Hit the Road. Our bodies are designed to move! Simply taking a walk around the block or getting up and moving from our TV or computer screens can help us burn some extra calories each day. But if you’re looking to torch some serious calories, turn it up a notch. The Centers for Disease Control recommends 150 minutes of moderate intensity activity a week for weight loss. You can even break your activity up. Try a 10-minute walk, three times a day, most days of the week and you should start seeing some results.
- Drink up. Water is good for your skin and hair, but it’s also an important part of weight loss. Our bodies are about 70% water. By filling up your water “tank” every day, you’ll start to look and feel better. Drinking plenty of water also helps us to feel fuller. Research shows that drinking two cups of water about 30 minutes before a meal will help you eat less. In fact, you’ll eat about 75 calories less during the meal. If you ate 75 fewer calories each meal a day for one year, you’d eat 52,800 less calories. That equals a 15 pound weight loss in just one year.
- Adjust your posture. Want to look slimmer almost instantly? All you need is to take a look at your posture. For an instant belly flattening technique sit up straight, pull your stomach towards your back, and brace at your waist. Hold that pose for 30 seconds, then relax. You’ll be strengthening you abs, while improving posture. It’s a win-win.
